Outstanding presentation of material in brief
I was surprised at how well organized and comprehensive this book really is. It is large format (not a small paperback) and includes charts, graphs, photos, and well-explained statistics. This would be perfect for writing reports for high school or college classes on the subject of animal rights.

Tituba, reluctant witch of Salem : devilish Indians and Puritan fantasies
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Author: Elaine G. Breslaw
Average review score:

an *interesting* historical text
This text retells the story we think we know about Tituba of Salem-- you know, the black slave woman who got all that trouble started with her voodoo-esque witchery... this book traces the historical evidence for Tituba actually being a Native American, and the path she would have taken to get to Salem at the time, as well as the story of what happened after she was swept up in the drama of the Puritans' search for the devil in the New World. It's a well-written historical account that is academic, but not so academic that those who are studying this period for fun will be alienated.

Salem the talking Cat does it again
It all started when Sabrina put a spell on her history book. Salem accidentally jumped into it, and now he keeps popping up in one historic scene after another. Everywhere he goes, he meets famous people like George Washington and Harriet Tubman. And they all need his help! The only way Salem will ever get out of the history book is to come up with the answers these famous folks need...and that means remembering what really happened. Salem had better be careful with his advice, or he'll be stuck in history...forever!

A Break with Charity: A Story about the Salem Witch Trials
Published in Paperback by Gulliver Books Paperbacks (01 July, 2003)
Author: Ann Rinaldi
Average review score:

A Great Novel
Wow! Ann Rinaldi has done it again! I loved reading this book. I have read other books by Ann Rinaldi, but i feel that this book it twice as good as the others. It showed how a entire community could fall apart just by one lie. It also showed the struggle of true love and family life durring the Salem Witch Trials. I felt that Susanna was a great character in this book. I was very suprised at her actions. She showed great courage and devotion to Johnathin by sticking with him and beleiving in true love even through the hard times. Again, I loved this book and cannot wait to read another one of Ann Rinaldi's work!

A break with Charity
I read A Break With Charity and loved it. It kept you on your feet and was very informative about the history of the Salem witch trials. After reading this book I know I have to read the other books by Ann Rinaldi. I borrwed it from the library and read it in a day, then a week later I bought it. I encourge anyone that likes thrills and chills to buy this book.

Educational, Easy Read, Excellent
I am a 13 year old who read this book because I was very interested in the Salem Witch Trials. I am a very picky reader and I consider it one of the best books I have ever read. It had a lot of educational information about the trials but at the same time it was not at all boring. At no point in this book did I feel that it was dragging on. This book I could not put down and spent an entire day reading it. I encourage this book to all young adults. Ann Rinaldi is an excellent author and has a real talent for writing!

Salem's Lot

WILL SUCK YOU IN COMPLETELY
Saloms Lot is with out a doubt one of the best books i have read to date! i was totally sucked in and could not put the book down for hardly anything! this is the first novel i had read of Kings at the time, i figured i would start close to the begining becouse i couldnt make my mind up on where to start with his many titles! i would highly recamend this book to ANYONE looking for a great king book or great book period! probibly not a book one would wanna read late at nite alone, at least not without drawing the shades closed (funny i should mention windows, and shades)! it is a VERY captivating story of if vampires where in our current society! not to mention the towns people are nearly more chilling than the vampires themselves! takes a good look at the people in the community and shows the skelotens in thier closet could have some of THEM, seen as beasts! great overall story and easy to fallow, very hard to put down! definately reccomended

The best King novel
Stephen King's "'Salem's Lot" is defintely his best book. It starts out introducing the two main characters, a writer named Ben and a young boy named Mark, and then introduces the town in which the story takes place, Jerusalem's Lot (also known as 'Salem's Lot). King does a great job at developing the town, its dark past, and its many residents. The trouble starts when two "business partners," R.T. Straker and his partner, Mr. Barlow, move into the infamous Marsten House in 'Salem's Lot. King also creates a chilling story about the Marsten House in this book, and how metioning it still makes the residents uneasy. Eventually there is a disappearance of a little boy, and Ben and a few others suspect that it is not only connected to the Marsten House, but to vampirism as well. "'Salem's Lot" is the best vampire novel I've read, and is very freaky. If you're a King fan who hasn't yet read this, or just want to read something scary, I highly recommend this book.

The Definitive Modern Vampire Story
"Carrie" was good, but this is the book that put Stephen King on the map. It has everything that we have come to expect from King's best efforts. It is well-written, insightful and accessible. It has well-formed and believable characters, with whom the reader can develop some connection. It is grounded in an every day, contemporary setting, making the story all-the-more real. It has unexpected plot twists. Above all, it is SCARY. I read this book when it first came out and I was much younger. I stayed home on a Saturday night to finish it, turning down a party invitation to do so (unheard of behavior at the time), and then had a hard time getting to sleep. I was half-expecting one of the Glick boys to be scratching at my bedroom window. Some of King's stylistic techniques have perhaps since become cliched. I am thinking, for instance, of his references to contemporary life, such a brand name consumer products and his beloved Red Sox. These techniques, however, were fresh when "'Salem's Lot" was first published, and the fact that they have become cliched speaks to their effectiveness. I have read many horror books (good and bad) since I picked up this one, but I'm still looking for the book that equals it.
